Vancouver Park Board gets ready to take the plunge into outdoor pool and beach season

The Vancouver Park Board prepares for its outdoor aquatic season, beginning May 17, with registration for swim times opening May 14. Kitsilano Pool, a beloved facility for over 50 years, is expected to open mid-June after staff identified necessary repairs during maintenance preparations. In the meantime, Second Beach Pool will extend its hours to accommodate public demand. New Brighton and Second Beach Pools will provide structured swim sessions throughout the week, with morning and evening public swim times available. Lifeguards will patrol designated swimming areas at multiple beaches, including English Bay and Jericho, starting May 17.

These areas will be marked with flags and supervised from noon to 8:30 PM daily. Additionally, Park Board concession stands will open, offering a variety of sustainable food options. The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation plans to allow alcohol consumption at select beaches starting in May 2025, following successful pilot programs.
