Kai-Ji Adam Lo has been charged with eight counts of second-degree murder following a tragic attack during a Filipino street festival in Vancouver that left at least 11 people dead. The incident took place shortly after 8 p. m. on April 26, near East 43rd Avenue and Fraser Street, with emergency services transporting 26 patients to hospitals for injuries ranging from critical to serious. Vancouver Police revealed that Lo has a significant history of interactions with police and health care professionals regarding mental health issues.

Const. Tania Visintin indicated that the charge assessment is ongoing, and additional charges are likely as the investigation continues. Victims of the attack ranged in age from five to 65 years, underscoring the widespread devastation felt in the community. Interim Chief Steve Rai described the incident as the "darkest day" in Vancouver's history, highlighting the profound impact on the local Filipino community. The Vancouver Police Department confirmed that they do not believe the attack was an act of terrorism.

Lo's next court date is scheduled for May 26.
