1 hospitalized, 14 evacuated after morning Langley fire

Vancouver, BCLocal News

A fire erupted at a townhouse complex in Langley early Tuesday morning, destroying one unit and damaging several others. Township of Langley Deputy Fire Chief Russ Jenkins reported that crews responded to the scene shortly after 5:30 a. m. and found one unit fully engulfed in flames. Around 14 residents were evacuated, and one individual was transported to the hospital by BC Ambulance.

Jenkins characterized the damage as extensive, indicating that the fire spread to adjacent units and vehicles in the area. Witnesses noted that smoke was visible from as far away as Tsawwassen, highlighting the fire's magnitude. Fire investigators are now on the scene to determine the cause and assess the total extent of the damage. The incident underscores the risks associated with townhouse living, where fires can rapidly spread between units. Local authorities will likely review safety protocols following this event.
