On March 24, the U. P. Police Department conducted a workshop aimed at addressing the pressing issue of shoplifting, drawing in local business owners who shared their concerns. Community Outreach Officer Cory Shears, alongside a representative from the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, facilitated discussions on effective prevention techniques. The workshop served as a platform for attendees to voice their experiences and learn from one another, forging a collaborative spirit.

Officer Shears emphasized the importance of open communication between law enforcement and local businesses, stating, “We want to help open the lines of communication between our business owners and our patrol officers. ” This initiative reflects the UPPD's commitment to tackling shoplifting through community engagement and data-driven strategies. By tracking trends and identifying repeat offenders, law enforcement aims to reduce incidents swiftly. The workshop not only provided practical solutions but also reinforced the relationship between the police and the business community.
