University Place dental lab burglary raises questions about suspects' intentions

University Place, WALocal News

In a brazen burglary over the weekend, Custom Dental Aesthetics in University Place, Washington, was robbed of four porcelain ovens, each valued between $8,000 and $10,000. Surveillance footage showed the suspects arriving at around 6 a. m. in a green mini-van and using a black wagon to haul away the stolen equipment. Owner Mike Shelley described the incident as a targeted crime, expressing disbelief over the calculated nature of the theft.

Local law enforcement, including Sergeant Darren Moss, is questioning the burglars' motives, particularly why they chose the ovens over other potential targets like drugs or computers. The unique nature of the stolen items raises concerns about their resale value given the serial numbers attached. This incident echoes past cases involving illegal dental practices and stolen equipment, prompting investigators to explore possible connections. The investigation remains active, and authorities are appealing to the public for any tips that could help identify the suspects. As the case unfolds, the community is left to ponder the implications of such a targeted crime on local businesses.
