Sales tax used for road maintenance to continue for another 10 years

Tumwater, WALocal News

Tumwater voters approved Proposition No. 1 on April 22, extending a 0. 2% sales tax for road maintenance projects for another 10 years. The measure garnered 3,308 "approved" votes, representing 76. 4% of the total.

Since its launch in 2015, the Transportation Benefit District (TBD) has raised over $19 million, which funded more than 100 miles of road improvements and over 50,000 tons of asphalt. The funds have also facilitated the acquisition of $6 million in grants through matching opportunities. The City of Tumwater reported that the sales tax revenue has significantly enhanced local infrastructure. Voter turnout for the special election was 22. 95% from 18,877 registered voters.

The extension of the sales tax supports ongoing investment in the city’s roads and sidewalks. This decision reflects the community's commitment to maintaining and improving local transportation infrastructure.
