Santanas 3-run homer helps Guardians beat Nationals 9-1 and split a doubleheader

Toronto, OHSports

Carlos Santana's three-run homer in the sixth inning fueled the Cleveland Guardians to a 9-1 win against the Washington Nationals, splitting their doubleheader on Tuesday night. The Guardians, who scored 18 runs across the twinbill, had previously lost the first game 10-9 after a late rally by the Nationals. Ben Lively pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing only one run while striking out multiple batters. Washington's pitching was marred by four wild pitches, complicating their game strategy. A pivotal moment occurred when José Ramírez's two-out walk set up Santana's 397-foot drive into the bullpen.

In addition to Santana, Steven Kwan and Daniel Schneemann also contributed with key hits, solidifying the Guardians' performance. The Nationals struggled to maintain their early lead, highlighted by Jacob Young's significant two-run single that briefly gave them a 6-2 advantage in the opener. Both teams will continue their series with a matchup featuring Guardians' Logan Allen against Nationals' Michael Soroka on Wednesday.
