During the extended Labor Day weekend, the Tampa Police Department significantly increased traffic enforcement to promote road safety, particularly on the Courtney Campbell Causeway. Officers executed 207 traffic stops in the area, resulting in 106 citations for speeding and numerous warnings. Chief Lee Bercaw stated that the operation was designed to educate the public about safe driving while also enforcing strict penalties for illegal activities like street racing. A notable incident occurred when police intervened in an attempted street takeover, arresting an 18-year-old driver for unlawful racing and drug-related charges. The department emphasized its commitment to eliminating dangerous driving behaviors and warned that such actions would lead to severe legal consequences.

Offenders could face felony charges, hefty fines, and loss of driving privileges for two years. Chief Bercaw reiterated the department's stance, asserting that reckless behavior would not be tolerated in Tampa. The community was encouraged to report any illegal racing activities to ensure public safety.
