Tampa Launches Two-Year Update of Land Development Code

Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

The City of Tampa is initiating a significant update to its Land Development Code (LDC) over the next two years, with the goal of making it more user-friendly and better suited to the city's growth. This project, named "Tampa Forward: Building Tomorrow Together," will focus on restructuring the regulations governing land use and development in a more logical manner. Improvements will include the incorporation of visuals like photos and diagrams to aid in understanding key provisions, as well as the use of precise language to enhance predictability and reduce ambiguity. Enhanced development standards, such as tree planting and landscaping requirements, will also be established to elevate the quality of urban development. Public engagement is a core component of this initiative, with a kickoff meeting scheduled for September 16, where residents can contribute their thoughts and feedback.

Interim administrator Abbye Feeley emphasized the necessity of resident participation to create a code that effectively meets the community's needs. In addition to attending the meeting, residents can share their opinions through a short survey. The city aims to ensure that the updated LDC will benefit both residents and businesses, fostering thriving neighborhoods across Tampa.
