Seaside Seabird Sanctuary rebuilt after hurricanes thanks to Greater Good Charities

Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

The Seaside Seabird Sanctuary has successfully rebuilt its facilities after hurricanes Helene and Milton wreaked havoc on the Pinellas coast, thanks to the generous support of Greater Good Charities. With damages exceeding $600,000, the sanctuary, which is home to 100 birds that cannot be released due to their injuries, faced a critical situation where shutting down was not an option. Greater Good's Pet Program and Construction Team provided specialized construction equipment and expertise to repair and rebuild the outdoor aviary enclosures. Melissa Edwards, the Avian Hospital Director, expressed gratitude for the support, noting the overwhelming damage the storms caused. Volunteers contributed significantly by assisting in the physical cleanup and fundraising for renovations.

Zach Baker from Greater Good Charities emphasized their commitment to helping non-profits like the sanctuary, enabling them to continue their vital work. The collaboration not only highlights the resilience of community efforts but also reinforces the importance of wildlife rehabilitation. The Seaside Seabird Sanctuary is now open again, inviting support from the public to sustain its mission.
