Lakeland Regional Health opens first freestanding emergency department
Lakeland Regional Health has proudly opened its first freestanding emergency department in South Lakeland, significantly enhancing healthcare access for the area's rapidly growing population. The new facility is equipped with 20 additional beds and three triage rooms, designed to alleviate pressure from the main emergency room, which already serves over 500 patients daily. In addition to standard emergency services, the freestanding ER offers 24-hour pediatric care, lab results, CT scans, and X-rays, ensuring comprehensive medical support. James Wright, president of emergency services, emphasized the facility's role in providing essential services closer to home, fostering a sense of community care. With more than 200,000 patients treated annually at the main campus, this new department is expected to reduce wait times and improve patient outcomes.
Wright noted that while the freestanding ER is a recent addition, he envisions similar facilities across the county to further support local healthcare needs. The commitment to keeping patients within the community is a key priority, ensuring that care remains accessible and efficient. This development not only marks a significant milestone for Lakeland Regional Health but also promises to enhance the overall health landscape of Polk County.
