Habitat for Humanity to build new homes in Lealman

Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

Habitat for Humanity is poised to build approximately 60 new homes in the Lealman neighborhood of Pinellas County, Florida, following the approval from local commissioners. This project will consist of 30 single-family homes and 27 townhomes, designed to meet the increasing demand for affordable housing as more people move to the area. CEO Mike Sutton, who has been with Habitat for Humanity for over a decade, expresses a deep passion for transforming vacant land into homes for families. He recalls the emotional impact of handing keys to nearly 700 families, emphasizing that each project begins as a mere patch of grass. Alongside the Lealman initiative, Habitat is finalizing a similar development in Clearwater, where 54 townhomes are ready to welcome new residents.

Sutton believes that the townhome model is crucial in providing housing solutions in a desirable community. Anticipating the start of construction in late 2025, he reflects on the rewarding journey from empty land to vibrant neighborhoods. This project not only addresses housing needs but also fosters community growth and stability.
