Tampa Police arrested a 15-year-old female student, Anabella Fuentes, on March 13, 2025, after she was found with a loaded handgun at Middleton High School. The alarming discovery was made possible when a concerned student reported the situation to the School Resource Officer. Following this report, the officer conducted an administrative search and recovered a . 22 caliber handgun from Fuentes. Chief Lee Bercaw stressed the seriousness of bringing firearms onto school property and praised the proactive actions of the student and the School Resource Officer.

Fortunately, Fuentes did not make any threats toward the school community, leading to a peaceful arrest without incident. She has been charged with Possession of a Weapon on School Property and was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
