Firestone Grand Prix leftovers being donated to those in need

Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

The Firestone Grand Prix is set to welcome an estimated 200,000 attendees in St. Petersburg this weekend, creating an exciting atmosphere for racing fans. However, beyond the thrill of the race, local nonprofit Positive Impact St. Pete is stepping up to tackle food waste by redistributing leftover food to families in need. Last year, this initiative helped provide meals for around 700 families, translating to roughly 3,000 individuals benefitting from the effort.

Executive Chef Justin York, who is involved in the food preparation for the event, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating that it is painful to see good food wasted when there are hungry people in the community. This partnership marks the second year of Positive Impact St. Pete's involvement with the Grand Prix, demonstrating a growing commitment to social responsibility in the region. By working with local kitchens, volunteers will collect unused food items that would otherwise be discarded. This initiative not only fosters community support but also highlights the importance of sustainability and addressing food insecurity.

The positive impact of this collaboration reflects the spirit of generosity that accompanies large-scale events like the Grand Prix.
