Tampa City Council Approves 3.2 Million in Disaster Relief

Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

The Tampa City Council has taken a significant step forward by approving $3. 2 million in disaster relief funding aimed at assisting homeowners affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. This financial support, drawn from the State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program (SHIP), will provide crucial aid for mortgage payments, home repairs, and insurance deductibles. Each qualifying household can receive up to $5,000 for mortgage assistance, $20,000 for home repairs, and $10,000 for insurance reimbursement, with a maximum of $20,000 in total support. Development and Economic Opportunity Administrator Abbye Feeley noted the plight of many residents who are displaced and still burdened by ongoing mortgage payments.

To ensure fair distribution, the City will partner with ICF Incorporated, LLC, implementing a structured application process that includes income eligibility screenings. Mayor Jane Castor expressed her appreciation for the City Council's unanimous decision, emphasizing the importance of easing the financial strain on residents recovering from the hurricanes. More details on the application process will be provided soon, ensuring that affected residents are informed and can access the necessary support. This initiative marks a vital effort to help the community rebuild and recover in the aftermath of the devastating storms.
