The Tampa Police Department arrested 72-year-old Johnnie Davis for aggravated animal cruelty after a dog died due to severe injuries inflicted while being dragged behind his truck. Witnesses reported the incident on February 12, 2025, as Davis drove for approximately one mile with the dog tied to his vehicle. Police found the dog severely injured, having come loose from the leash after being dragged during a turn into a bank parking lot. Emergency services transported the dog to a veterinary facility, but it unfortunately did not survive. Chief Lee Bercaw expressed the community's outrage over the incident, emphasizing the importance of holding individuals accountable for such inhumane acts.
