The Tampa City Council has officially appointed Abbye Feeley as the new administrator for development and economic opportunity, following a decisive 5-2 vote. Feeley has been serving in an interim capacity for five months and has expressed a strong emotional connection to the city. Her immediate goals include filling several critical vacant leadership positions to enhance the department's effectiveness in addressing Tampa’s growth and housing challenges. Under her predecessor, Nicole Travis, the city saw over $4 billion in new development value and significant renovations, such as updates to the Tampa Convention Center. Feeley's experience spans more than two decades with the city, having worked under four mayors and in various capacities, including planning and development coordinator.

She has also briefly worked in the private sector, representing developers, which enriches her perspective on local economic issues. As the city faces a critical staff shortage, Feeley's leadership aims to streamline operations and improve response to pressing local needs. Her track record and dedication are expected to positively influence Tampa’s economic development initiatives moving forward.
