1 killed, at least 6 hurt in separate Polk County crashes

In a tragic turn of events on Sunday evening, Polk County experienced two serious crashes that resulted in one death and at least six injuries. The first crash happened around 8:21 PM in the Frostproof area, specifically on Alturas Babson Park Cutoff Road near U. S. 27, involving multiple vehicles. Six individuals were taken to local hospitals for treatment, with three transported by ambulance and another three, including a child, airlifted by helicopter.

The nature of their injuries remains unclear, although at least one victim suffered serious, potentially life-threatening injuries. Just minutes later, at 8:30 PM, a second crash occurred north of Lakeland on Rockridge Road near Country Place Road, where a single vehicle struck a tree, resulting in one fatality. The Polk County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that both crashes are under investigation, and more information is expected to be released on Monday. Local authorities are urging anyone with information related to the crashes to come forward. This unfortunate incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety in the region.
