Port Richey Police Chief Cyrus Robinson has resigned from his post after more than four years, with Captain Michael Koch stepping in as interim chief during the search for a new leader. His resignation follows a controversial decision by the City Council to transfer emergency dispatch services to Pasco County, which Robinson opposed. Robinson, a veteran of nearly four decades in law enforcement, previously served as a major in the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. In his statement, he expressed gratitude for his career and mentioned the challenges of moving into retirement, stating, “I will retire and take a few months to relax. ” He also indicated that he might consider returning to law enforcement if the right opportunity arises.

The City Council is expected to take three to four months to find Robinson's replacement, and discussions regarding potential changes to the city’s charter are ongoing. During a recent council meeting, officials presented various projects for state funding, adding another layer of complexity to the city's governance.
