Two dead in wrong-way crash on Suncoast Parkway, troopers say

In a tragic incident on the Suncoast Parkway in Hernando County, two drivers were killed in a wrong-way crash early Saturday morning. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the accident took place just north of County Line Road shortly before 1 a. m. A 45-year-old man from Homosassa was driving a Volkswagen Jetta south in the northbound lanes when he collided head-on with a northbound Honda Odyssey driven by a 47-year-old woman, also from Homosassa. The force of the impact resulted in both vehicles flipping over, leading to the immediate deaths of both drivers at the scene.

Two passengers in the Honda, both 20 years old, were injured but their injuries were not considered life-threatening, and they were taken to the hospital for treatment. The authorities have not yet released further details about the crash. This incident highlights the ongoing issues of wrong-way driving on highways, which can lead to catastrophic outcomes. The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
