Brooksville man riding electric bike dies after crash in Hernando County: FHP

In a tragic accident on Saturday night in Hernando County, Florida, a 42-year-old Brooksville man died after being hit by an SUV while riding his electric bike. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that the victim was traveling south on the Nature Coast Trail when he approached a stop sign at Highfield Road but failed to stop. The collision involved a Chevy Trailblazer driven by a 21-year-old man from Inverness, who was traveling west on Highfield Road. Following the crash, the electric bike rider was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A female passenger on the bike sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.

Fortunately, the driver of the SUV was not injured in the incident. This accident underscores the importance of adhering to traffic signals, especially for cyclists. Local authorities are urging all riders to prioritize safety on the roads and trails.
