Dump truck driver killed in fiery Hillsborough crash with train

A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon when a dump truck collided with a train in Ruskin, Hillsborough County, resulting in the death of the truck driver. The crash occurred at approximately 12:05 p. m. on Old U. S.

Highway 41, leading to multiple emergency calls reporting an explosion and thick smoke rising from the area. Fire crews from Hillsborough County arrived on the scene in under eight minutes and encountered a chaotic situation, with the dump truck and several train cars engulfed in flames. In addition to the vehicles, small brush fires had ignited in the surrounding area, posing further risks. Fortunately, firefighters managed to extinguish all the fires within half an hour, preventing the situation from escalating. Officials confirmed that there were no hazardous materials involved, with the train carrying gravel and the dump truck transporting sand.

The authorities have not provided any information regarding the identity of the deceased driver as the investigation continues. This unfortunate event underscores the dangers associated with road and rail interactions and the urgent need for improved safety measures.
