Central High School Student Arrested for Online Threats

Tampa Bay, FLCrime/Public Safety

In Brooksville, Florida, a serious incident has occurred involving a student arrested for making an online threat to 'shoot up' Central High School. The threat was communicated through an Instagram post that drew the attention of the FBI, prompting an investigation by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. The post specified a time and date for the alleged attack, causing significant concern among officials and the community. Investigators traced the IP address of the post back to the student's residence in Spring Hill. When questioned, the student admitted to owning the Instagram profile and claimed the threat was meant as a joke, reflecting a misguided sense of humor.

Despite this explanation, law enforcement took the matter seriously, charging the student with Felony Written Threats to Kill/Injure. He has since been placed in a Department of Juvenile Justice facility in Ocala. This incident underscores the serious implications of online threats and the potential legal consequences, regardless of intent.
