In a devastating incident, Deputy Ignacio “Dan” Diaz became the third motorcycle deputy to die following a crash with an SUV in Palm Beach County, as he and two colleagues were assisting a disabled vehicle. The tragic event unfolded on Southern Boulevard near Loxahatchee, where the deputies were waiting for assistance. Cpl. Luis Paez, 58, and Deputy Ralph Waller, 54, had already lost their lives shortly after the crash, which occurred when the SUV driver swerved into the right lane. This resulted in a collision that sent all three deputies and their motorcycles airborne.

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw highlighted the inherent dangers that law enforcement officers face while on duty, especially in such vulnerable situations. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office released a statement mourning the loss of the three dedicated officers, emphasizing their commitment to serving and protecting the community. Deputy Diaz had served for over two decades, with significant time spent in the motor unit, while Paez and Waller also had extensive law enforcement careers. This incident not only reflects on the risks faced by police but also serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those in the line of duty.
