Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

A devastating accident occurred in Wellington, Florida, where two sheriff’s deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office were killed and a third was critically injured after being struck by an SUV. The deputies were conducting traffic enforcement when one deputy's motorcycle had mechanical issues, prompting them to move it to the grassy shoulder. While they waited for assistance, a woman driving an SUV lost control and veered onto the shoulder, colliding with the deputies. Sheriff Ric Bradshaw expressed the community's grief, stating, “When a deputy dies, a piece of the community dies with them. ” The two deceased deputies were transported to a hospital, while the third deputy underwent surgery and was reported to be in critical but stable condition.

The sheriff’s office has not disclosed the identities of the deputies or the SUV driver, who suffered minor injuries. Investigators are looking into whether speed played a role in the crash, although initial reports indicated the driver was not impaired. This tragic event underscores the inherent dangers faced by law enforcement officers every day.
