Substitute teacher had ‘sexual relationship’ with student, Hillsborough deputies say

Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

Joseph Prevatte, a 39-year-old substitute teacher, was arrested by Hillsborough County deputies for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student at Lennard High School. The investigation revealed that Prevatte engaged in inappropriate messaging and sexual interactions with the student during his short time at the school. He was employed for just three days in October 2024, but authorities were notified of the situation through a tip submitted via the FortifyFL app. Prevatte is also facing charges in Manatee County, where he was accused of similar behavior, including sending sexually explicit messages to another high school student. He was previously booked in the Manatee County jail but was released on bond shortly before his arrest in Hillsborough.

Following the allegations, the Hillsborough County school district promptly removed him from the school environment. The situation raises serious concerns regarding the safety and well-being of students in educational settings. As investigations continue, local authorities emphasize the importance of reporting such incidents to protect vulnerable students.
