In the wake of hurricanes Helene and Milton, the City of Oldsmar has initiated a significant partnership with Pinellas County to enhance its debris removal and home inspection processes. On November 5, the City Council approved an interlocal agreement designed to streamline efforts in recovering from the storms’ devastating impacts. This agreement allows Oldsmar to utilize Pinellas County’s contracts, offering substantial cost savings in debris removal services—$7. 68 per cubic yard compared to the state contract's $14. 98.

Additionally, the partnership ensures compliance with federal requirements, enhancing the city’s chances for Federal Emergency Management Agency reimbursement. Officials highlight the importance of the National Flood Insurance Program in fostering community resilience against future disasters. The collaboration not only aims to expedite cleanup efforts but also to strengthen the city’s preparedness for potential natural disasters. Overall, this strategic alliance is seen as a critical step toward rebuilding and reducing future flood risks in Oldsmar.
