Tampa Launches First Eco-Counter Display to Promote Active Transportation

Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

The City of Tampa has proudly unveiled its first Eco-Counter display at the corner of North Boulevard and West Cass Street, aimed at enhancing the visibility of pedestrians and cyclists. This innovative device uses camera sensors to provide real-time counts of non-motorized transportation users. The data collected from the Eco-Counter will not only inform usage patterns but also motivate residents to opt for biking instead of driving. The initiative is part of a broader strategy under the city's M. O.

V. E. S. Plan, which prioritizes safe and equitable transportation options. Currently, Tampa boasts over 130 miles of bike facilities, with plans for more extensions such as the West Riverwalk and Green Spine.

These projects will connect neighborhoods with improved streets, sidewalks, and protected bike lanes. The Eco-Counter's data will be publicly accessible online, encouraging community participation in urban mobility discussions. This move reflects Tampa's commitment to fostering a healthier, safer, and more connected city for its residents.
