Tampa Bay Area Watering Restrictions Extended Amid Drought Recovery

Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

Water officials in the Tampa Bay area have extended once-a-week watering restrictions through December 31, 2024, in response to continuing drought conditions. The Southwest Florida Water Management District made this decision after a significant 12-month rainfall deficit. Recently, the Tampa City Council approved a permanent measure to limit outdoor watering to once a week, aiming to conserve water resources. This ordinance impacts residents and businesses that use city drinking water or well water for irrigation. By enforcing this restriction, the city anticipates saving over a billion gallons compared to the previous two-days-per-week limit.

Reclaimed water is still available for irrigation but must be used responsibly. The Tampa Water Department provides various resources to support residents in reducing their water use. This initiative positions Tampa to better manage its water supply and prepare for future drought scenarios.
