Tampa Celebrates Barranquilla, Colombia Day

Mayor Jane Castor recently declared August 23 as "Barranquilla, Colombia Day" during a ceremony to celebrate the Sister City relationship established in 1956. This relationship has fostered connections between the communities, businesses, and individuals of Tampa and Barranquilla. Castor was joined by representatives from both cities, including Vicky Ibañez and Cesar Felipe González Hernández, highlighting the importance of cultural exchanges and trade. During her speech, Castor pointed out the similarities that unite the two cities, such as their warm climates and bustling economies. The longstanding partnership has led to nearly six decades of collaboration, encompassing various fields like art, music, and education.

Castor expressed gratitude for the friendship and bond maintained between the cities. Also attending was former Mayor Bob Buckhorn, who had visited Barranquilla during his tenure. Castor hopes to make a similar trip before her term concludes, emphasizing her commitment to strengthening this international relationship.
