Tampa Bay, FLLocal News

The Tampa Police Department is set to host "Ybor Night Out: A Time of Remembrance and Resilience" on October 29, 2024, marking the one-year anniversary of a tragic shooting that claimed the lives of two individuals. This community-focused event, organized in partnership with the Ybor City Historic District business community, aims to honor the victims—Harrison Boonstoppel and Elijah Wilson—and promote a message of unity. The evening will kick off with a candlelight vigil at 6:30 PM, allowing community members to reflect and pay their respects. Participants will receive blue LED bracelets, symbolizing solidarity, while local businesses will light their windows with blue candles in support. Tampa Police officers, including K9 and equestrian units, will walk along 7th Avenue, encouraging conversations with residents and visitors to foster stronger community ties.

Chief Lee Bercaw highlighted the importance of such gatherings, stating that they remind everyone of the safety and closeness of the Tampa community when united. This event not only serves as a memorial but also aims to reinforce the commitment to community safety and resilience. By bringing together police and locals, "Ybor Night Out" seeks to deepen the connections that make Tampa a vibrant and safe place to live.
