Student Found with Two Handguns Arrested at Blake High School

A significant safety incident occurred at Blake High School in Tampa when a 15-year-old student, Antwan Colding, was arrested for possessing two loaded handguns. The arrest happened shortly after noon during a search of students found vaping in the restroom, leading to the alarming discovery. Fortunately, there were no threats made to anyone at the school, and thankfully, no injuries were reported. Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw commented on the seriousness of the situation, reiterating the critical need for gun safety and the role of School Resource Officers in preventing potential threats. Colding has been charged with two counts of Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds and is expected to be taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

The investigation is still active, with detectives looking into how the juvenile obtained the firearms. Additionally, the Tampa Police Department is promoting responsible gun ownership through their "Project: Locked & Unloaded" initiative, which offers free gun locks to residents. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding gun safety in schools.
