Tacoma celebrates an epic Juneteenth

Tacoma, WALocal News

Tacoma's Juneteenth celebration in 2025 drew around 20,000 participants, nearly double last year's attendance. Held at Stewart Heights Park, the event featured live music, over 30 food trucks, and 150 vendors, creating a lively community atmosphere. JD Davis, the event's founder, highlighted the importance of economic freedom as a crucial aspect of true liberation. Resources for housing, employment, and education were available, with organizations like MultiCare and Tacoma Community College actively seeking participants. Davis thanked local law enforcement, especially Sergeant Jason Mills, for their assistance in planning and executing the event.

The celebration not only commemorated the end of slavery but also encouraged community engagement and joy. The theme, "A Road to Economic Freedom," resonated with attendees, reflecting the ongoing struggle for equality. Ultimately, the event served as a powerful reminder of the significance of Juneteenth in American history.
