Athletic Commission honors spring sports athletes

The Tacoma-Pierce Athletic Commission’s 2025 Spring Athlete of the Year awards dinner attracted over 600 attendees on June 12 at the McGavick Conference Center. This event celebrated 150 student athletes from Tacoma and Pierce County, highlighting their achievements in academics and athletics. TAC President Gil Quante expressed pride in the athletes’ roles as community members, emphasizing the emotional impact of their accomplishments. Tom Burmester received the Inspiration Award for his extensive contributions to education and athletics over 43 years. Each honored athlete shared personal highlights from their sports careers, fostering a sense of community pride.

The award selection criteria included academic performance, athletic success, and involvement in school and community activities. The evening underscored the significance of youth sports in shaping character and community engagement. The event not only recognized individual achievements but also inspired future generations of athletes.
