County SolSmart Silver for solar energy

Tacoma, WALocal News

Pierce County has achieved a "Silver" designation from the SolSmart program, acknowledging its initiatives to enhance affordable solar energy access. By adopting nationally recognized best practices, the county partnered with SolSmart's technical assistance team to boost local solar knowledge. Pierce County Executive Mello emphasized that this designation signifies their commitment to a cleaner, more resilient future. The county's Sustainability 2030 plan targets a 45% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, aligning with its goals to eliminate barriers to renewable energy projects. Training for Planning & Public Works staff on solar permitting and inspections supported this achievement.

The county also launched a solar landing page to inform residents about solar project planning. This webpage features local solar success stories, including the Purdy Landfill Solar Project. Tacoma Public Utilities further supports local customers in integrating solar energy into their homes.
