Critical infrastructure projects funded

Tacoma, WALocal News

The city secured a total of $1. 676 million in state funding for two vital infrastructure projects: the Meeker Festival Street and the 4th Street NW Stormwater Improvement project. The festival street, located on East Meeker between Meridian and 3rd Street SE, aims to foster pedestrian activities and connect the downtown area with the Meeker Mansion. Public Works Director Ken Davies stated that the street will be curbless and designed to host various events. Construction for this project is scheduled to commence in 2027.

Meanwhile, the stormwater upgrade along 4th Street NW will replace a decades-old line that directly discharges into the Puyallup River. The new line will be larger, with a diameter of 36 to 42 inches, and will be executed in multiple phases. The recently funded phase will extend from 7th Avenue NW to Stewart Avenue, just before the train tracks. This investment is expected to improve local infrastructure and environmental conditions significantly.
