Public input sought for bridges future
Pierce County Councilmember Dave Morell calls on local residents to participate in the public input period for the future of the Carbon River Bridge, which was permanently closed in April due to significant structural deterioration. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has established an online open house for feedback until June 17, accessible at engage. wsdot. wa. gov/sr-165-fairfax-bridge.
Morell highlights the bridge's importance as a lifeline for rural communities in the Carbon River Valley, stating, "It should have been preserved long ago. " For residents without internet access, free Wi-Fi is available at the Buckley and Orting Pierce County Libraries. The bridge was crucial for access to Mount Rainier National Park and surrounding areas, serving as the only state highway to these locations. WSDOT will collaborate with local representatives to develop recommendations based on community input. The closure has posed challenges for residents and businesses reliant on this route.
More information about the study and closure is available on the WSDOT website.
