Tacoma Humane Society reopens after plumbing emergency

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County reopened Saturday after a plumbing emergency led to a temporary closure. Flooding in the lobby area occurred Friday night, coinciding with renovations on 14 dog kennels that had already reduced shelter capacity. Community members, staff, and volunteers joined forces to assist with the cleanup, allowing for a swift return to regular operations. "This is a community effort," stated Lauren Green, director of marketing and communications. The shelter's entrance shifted to the west side, where the Pet Food & Supply Pantry was converted into an adoption space.

Remarkably, the shelter facilitated 30 adoptions on Saturday despite the flooding. The plumbing issue accelerated the timeline for planned lobby renovations, though animal care areas remained unaffected. Support is encouraged through fostering, adopting, donating, and volunteering at the Tacoma Humane Society.
