Watercolorist creates beautiful usefulness

Tacoma, WALocal News

Sydney C’ de Baca's watercolor artwork is featured at the Pacific Northwest Shop, where she promotes her philosophy of "beautiful usefulness" in everyday items. Her products, including tea towels and tote bags, showcase designs inspired by the Pacific Northwest's flora and fauna, as well as fruits and vegetables. C’ de Baca emphasizes that her art should be used, not just admired, coining the term "kitchen love" to describe the joy of using beautiful kitchenware. Her high-quality, eco-friendly creations have garnered attention, leading her to sell at various museums and through her online shop. A significant moment occurred when a representative from NASA praised her solar system designs at a conference, affirming her artistic capabilities.

C’ de Baca's artistic journey began with doodling, transitioning to watercolor after receiving a kit from her mother. Her experiences at a Benedictine monastery, where she worked on a farm, provided grounding and inspiration for her art. Today, she continues to blend her love for food and art, creating keepsake cards and kitchen textiles that resonate with her audience.
