Wright Park playground to undergo repairs

Tacoma, WALocal News

The playground at Wright Park will undergo $150,000 in repairs after inspections revealed rotting support posts, creating safety concerns. Tacoma Parks Foundation will contribute $100,000 from the Zina Linnik Endowment Fund to replace the failing wooden columns with recycled plastic posts. The remaining $50,000 will be funded through park maintenance and operations. Park Board President Andrea Smith highlighted the importance of the foundation's foresight in ensuring long-term care for the playground. Construction is anticipated to begin this summer and will last approximately three months.

The repairs will not affect the Summer Meal Program at Wright Park, which serves free meals to youth. However, the sprayground is currently closed for maintenance. The playground was part of a community initiative established in 2011 to honor Zina Linnik, a young girl who was tragically abducted and killed in 2007.
