New round of public art in downtown Puyallup

Tacoma, WALocal News

Puyallup’s Outdoor Sculpture Gallery launched five new public sculptures this May, expanding its collection to 60 pieces. Among the highlights are "Emerald Spring" by Don Anderson and "Tranquil II" by CJ Rench, which serves as both art and seating. The gallery, inspired by a similar project in Wenatchee, began over 30 years ago and has adapted its approach to accommodate limited downtown space. The community votes for their favorite sculpture every two years, with the latest winner, "Discipline" by Steve Tyree, receiving a $2,000 stipend. This initiative not only beautifies the city but also engages residents in the arts.

The partnership with the city has been crucial to the gallery’s success, along with the scenic Pioneer Park that provides an ideal backdrop for public art. The new installations aim to enhance the cultural landscape and foster community interactions. Arts Downtown continues to prioritize public engagement and support for local artists.
