Curran Karate Academy begins new chapter

After 46 years of operation, Steve Curran is transferring ownership of the Academy of Steve Curran Karate & Fitness to a longtime student. At 78, he assures that the transition will be smooth, maintaining the same structures for the students. Curran intends to stay involved, especially during significant events like black belt promotions, expressing his desire to maintain connections with his students. His dedication to martial arts has not only earned him multiple accolades, including a 10th degree black belt and 185 national championships, but also a reputation as a nurturing mentor. He emphasizes the importance of discipline and academic performance among his students.

Curran's contributions to martial arts have been recognized nationally, culminating in his induction into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 2019. Known affectionately as "Mad Dawg," he has also made appearances in television and film alongside Chuck Norris. His lifelong passion began at age seven and has profoundly impacted the lives of many young martial artists.
