College Athletes of the Year honored

The Tacoma-Pierce County Athletic Commission honored four exemplary college athletes on May 8 at Cheney Stadium. Pacific Lutheran University’s Paige Wilson and Ryan Stracke, along with Taj Phillips and Kyrstin Wilson from the University of Puget Sound, received accolades for their academic and athletic achievements. TAC member Lauralee Hagen emphasized the need to recognize scholar athletes for their contributions to their universities. Wilson, the NFCA National Pitcher of the Week, has made history with three no-hitters this season. Stracke has excelled in both cross-country and track, winning multiple conference titles and setting three school records.

His commitment to training includes running up to 110 miles in a week. The event showcased the dedication and accomplishments of local athletes, reinforcing their importance within the community. This recognition aims to inspire future generations of scholar athletes in Tacoma.
