Tacoma, WALocal News

On June 4, ILWU pensioner Paul Zuanich will kick off the 2025 Ride the Coast fundraiser at Peace Arch Park, embarking on a 2,100-mile electric bicycle journey to raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). Over 38 days, Zuanich will stop at various ILWU ports, including Bellingham and San Pedro, to promote awareness of childhood cancer. He aims to unite the ILWU community while honoring the legacy of Alexandra Scott, who raised $1 million for childhood cancer research before her death at age 8. Zuanich has previously helped raise over $1. 3 million for ALSF through the annual ILWU Walk the Coast event, which has set fundraising records.

His ride is dedicated to children in need and reflects his gratitude for the health of his family. Zuanich, a retired police officer, is also coordinating with local law enforcement for an escort during his journey. As he stated, “When I’m grateful for something, I show my gratitude by an action. ” The event is set to conclude with a picnic on July 5 in San Pedro, California.
