Filing week for Charter Review Commission

Tacoma, WALocal News

Candidate filing for the Pierce County Charter Review Commission opens on May 5 and closes at 5 p. m. on May 9. The Commission evaluates the County Charter, which outlines the governance of Pierce County and its functions. Any proposed amendments will appear on the November 2026 General Election ballot, allowing voters to make decisions on them.

The Commission includes three members from each of the seven Council districts, elected through nonpartisan ballots during the 2025 primary and general elections. To qualify, candidates must be registered voters who have resided in Pierce County for five years and pay a $15 filing fee. Members serve a six-month term starting in January 2026 and will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred. The Pierce County Council adopted Resolution R2025-101 to facilitate this election process, ensuring regular review of the County Charter. Additional information can be found at PierceCountyWa.
