Recline in comfort at the Blue Mouse

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Blue Mouse Theatre in Tacoma is currently undergoing a renovation project to install new ergonomic seating, funded through a community campaign that raised $50,000 and a matching grant from the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation. The theater closed its doors on April 27, 2025, for approximately six weeks while the old seats are being removed and replaced. Manager Sue Evans, along with her family and staff, is undertaking the labor-intensive task of removing the old seats to minimize costs associated with hiring external help. The new seating is designed for enhanced comfort and will reduce the theater's capacity from 205 to 150 to comply with ADA regulations. This change reflects a commitment to both accessibility and preserving the historic charm of the venue.

The old seats, which have been in place for over 20 years, have shown signs of wear and contained remnants from previous events, including rice from the long-running "Rocky Horror" screenings. The community's support and involvement highlight the significance of the Blue Mouse Theatre as a cherished local landmark. Upon completion, patrons can expect a vastly improved viewing experience in the newly updated space.
