Join the 2025 City Nature Challenge

Tacoma, WALocal News

The City Nature Challenge invites community scientists to participate in documenting local biodiversity from April 25 to April 28 in the Seattle-Tacoma area. Participants can easily join the challenge using the iNaturalist app to record their observations of plants, animals, and fungi. The app's image recognition feature and community experts will assist in identifying species. Guided nature walks will be available on April 27 at Titlow Beach Park and Swan Creek Park, enhancing educational experiences for families. In 2024, the region set a record with 16,395 observations, marking a 63% increase from the previous year.

This year's goal is to surpass that record while engaging more residents in nature. Observations contribute vital data for scientists to monitor and protect local species. The initiative highlights the Puget Sound region's rich biodiversity and encourages a deeper connection with nature.
