TPD officially launches Service Saturdays

The Tacoma Police Department has launched an initiative called "Service Saturdays," which aims to strengthen community ties through various outreach programs. The inaugural event took place on April 19 at Spring Ridge Assisted Living, where TPD’s Community Engagement Senior Manager, Bervin Smith, led a crew in organizing bingo games and lunch for seniors. This program intentionally fosters intergenerational connections by involving local students, emphasizing the importance of community relationships. Smith expressed hope that the quarterly events would enhance trust and cooperation between the police and younger residents. Spring Ridge Community Relations Manager Angie Jackson highlighted the excitement surrounding the collaboration, noting how it brings together diverse generations.

Local organizations, such as Fabrics of Faith Ministry, contributed handmade quilts for residents, showcasing the community’s dedication to support. The event also featured participation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, who brought Easter cards for veterans living at Spring Ridge. Overall, "Service Saturdays" signifies a meaningful commitment by the Tacoma Police Department to engage with the community and foster a spirit of goodwill.
