Council considers land annexation

Tacoma, WALocal News

Tacoma has received a proposal for the annexation of three vacant parcels along McKinley Avenue East, which would integrate them into the city's urban growth area. The properties, totaling around 10. 45 acres, are located in the Parkland/Spanaway area and currently lack structures. If annexed, they would be included in council district 5, overseen by Council Member Joe Bushnell. A public hearing will take place on April 15 to evaluate the annexation application, which aims to support residential development and provide city utility access.

Previous annexation attempts for one of the parcels were unsuccessful due to concerns about irregular boundaries. However, the applicants have now expanded their proposal to include adjacent properties, enhancing the likelihood of approval. City planning policies advocate for such annexations, aligning with state and regional growth management initiatives. Council Member Bushnell expressed support for the annexation, emphasizing its potential benefits for local residents.
