City Engineer Hans Hunger emphasizes that these upgrades are crucial for maintaining a roadway that has seen significant deterioration over the years. The project will also involve replacing some of the oldest public utilities, ensuring that residents receive reliable services. The total estimated cost for the project is $6.

12 million, with a noteworthy $2. 42 million grant obtained from the State Department of Ecology to aid in funding. This grant reflects the project's focus on sustainability, as it includes the installation of permeable pavement to enhance stormwater management. Project Manager Jessica Wilson notes that the current narrow street and buckling sidewalks are not up to modern standards, making the improvements necessary for accommodating future growth. Overall, the upgrades aim to modernize an older neighborhood while addressing pressing infrastructure needs.
